F A Q' s

1. Does it cost money to participate in Sing Peace Around the World?
Absolutely not.

2. Do we have to sing for 24 hours straight?
No, just for 5-10 minutes during your designated time slot.

3. How do we know when it will be our turn to sing?
If each school from around the world sings at 11am for 5-10 minutes the song will continue to go around the world for 24 hours!

4. Is there actually a Montessori school in every time zone on the planet?
Not quite, but almost.

5. What will you do about the time slots that don't have any countries participating?
Don't worry there are schools singing continuously.

6. What should we do now to get ready for the event?
1. Download the song for free.
2. Teach it to your children.
3. Invite other Montessori teachers you know to join us in the fun.

6. Should we take pictures and video of us participating in the event?
Yes, we hope you do and send us some so we can produce a montage for the United Nations.

7. Does it matter what Montessori training or affiliation we belong to?
Absolutely not.

8. What if we want to participate and we are not a Montessori school?
We would love for you to join us, we don't turn any one away who wants to sing about peace!

9. Should we invite parents to come and participate in the event?
Sounds great!

  15. We are writing from the Virgin Islands Montessori School and International Academy - where we have just recently completed a wonderful Peace Day celebration. 250 students, 30 staff members, 40 parents, and members of the Press all joined in singing "Light a Candle for Peace". Our I.B. students made a giant dove (a la Jane Goodall); two of our M.Y.P students accompanied us on violins, and two of our cool 8th graders turned the song into a rap - which brought a great round of applause!! The Upper Elementary Students made a long peace poster, and our Lower Elementary Students made beautiful doves to wave. Many students and teachers shared peace quotes.
Chris, aged 9, says "We are so glad we were able to sing this song along with the rest of the world." Jalen, aged 8, adds, "I am glad we sang this song for peace." Karen, age 8 comments, "It was really fun to sing the peace song." Many thanks, Shelley, for the inspired idea, and for seeing it through so successfully.

  24. Today at the Virgin Islands Montessori School and International Academy sang the Peace song for about a half an hour over and over again. We also had a few kids write poems and read them to the school. There were also students and a few teachers who read quotes that they liked and were about peace and read them to the school, parents and press. Some things that the International Academy made peace doves out of were donated sheets from The Westin and Point Pleasant and with lots of help from Ms. Jenkins.

  28. Peace helps bring the world closer together to form better nations. The Virgin Islands Montessori School and International Academy in St. Thomas was part of the world wide schools to sing the Peace song for peace day. The "ceremony" was awesome and it made me think about all the other people in the world and what it would be like to have peace.

  29. PEACE! I am from the US Virgin Islands Montessori School and International Academy. We had over 300 people come to out peace ceremony. Everybody from age 4 to adult sang their hearts out to "Light a Candle for Peace" while 4 other students and I held a giant dove 12 feet long and 22 feet wide. The dove was made from white sheets that two hotels, The Westin and Point Pleasant, generously gave us, and bamboo to hold it up. We also had people read poems and their own comments to the whole crowd about peace. We should all be grateful for the life that we are given and that we can celebrate peace with the rest of the world. This is a great way to celebrate peace and we all loved it. PEACE!
