We sang the song today at 12:15 p.m. in our classroom. There were six children and one teacher! We watched the videos from all the countries, and we say "very good job, everyone!" You all sang nicely and you had candles.Nice candles! Sartori said, "Good job everyone around the world." Ms. Yusuf's class, MacDowell Montessori School, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A.
ReplyDeleteThe students, staff and teachers (and some lucky parents) of Eagle Peak Montessori in Walnut Creek California USA sang our hearts out for peace from 11:02 - 11:07 am. The principal lit a candle and we made sure the students know that peace begins right here with eachother. About 200 people were singing and passing an olive branch around our courtyard.
ReplyDeleteI attended the AMS Conference in New Orleans this past Spring and had the chance be in attendance when Shelley Murley launched the "Sing Peace Around the World" project. For those of you who haven't heard the rest of Shelley's Songs for Peace it is a must have for your centre, classroom, or family.
ReplyDeleteMy centre, Little Scholars "YMCA Playing to Learn" Childcare & Preschool, located in Kelowna, British Columbia, sang "Sing Peace around the World at 11:15am this morning.
I love seeing all the video's of the children singing, thank you. We will post ours tomorrow.
Shelley how can we arrange you to come to our school and do a workshop for teachers?

Thanks Shelley
What I did not capture on video: All morning, in anticipation of joining the entire school community outside to sing this song, many children spontaneously sang this song as they took various flags and walked the line. Others continued to work. Four of the girls taught themselves to sing the round in the middle while others continued to switch out flags and walk the line. And our happy little sun conure chirped blissfully along.
ReplyDeleteThank you to Sam and Libby for teaching CH4 the song last week!

We had 200+ children and adults singing in our courtyard at 11:07 am, wearing our "Montessori is Peace Education" shirts. Before we started singing, we guessed where other children might be singing and you could see the Montessori geography curriculum at work as children called out countries and continents. Later, at lunch and recess, I could hear children bursting spontaneously into song. This is all especially meaningful in our urban neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this wonderful opportunity.

ReplyDelete260 students, 26 teachers, several parents and community members all gathered to "Sing Peace around the World" at 11:26 at the River Valley Charter School in Newburyport, MA. Thank you for organizing this beautiful initiative. We enjoyed participating!
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to see that one dream becomes an idea and then the idea becomes a project that finally is a fact... Children learn from ideas and dreams that become real facts that make our history. Thank you for the experience.
